Joanne Roberts Ph.D.
Joanne Roberts has a Ph.D. degree in Exercise physiology from Texas
A&M University. Joanne has 27 years
experience in the field of exercise physiology, human performance, and
fitness. Her expertise is in cardiopulmonary
and metabolic function, thermoregulation,
sport and occupational exercise programs, and women's health. She currently is the Exercise Physiologist
with Montgomery County Maryland Fire and Rescue (MCFR) where she manages a
multi-faceted fitness program that provides fitness services to MCFRS staff. Dr
Roberts has trained over 60 firefighters to be nationally certified as American
Council on Exercise (ACE) Peer Fitness Trainers and provides them with
continuing education, supervision, guidance and support. She has developed unique, job-specific
training programs for the firefighters and rescue workers and overseas more
than 40 Fire/Rescue work site fitness facilities. Prior to coming to MCFR, Dr. Roberts worked
as a consultant and researcher to Military Operational Medicine, Navy divers,
Army Special Forces and Defense Women.
She has also taught at several Universities and is currently adjunct
faculty at George Washington University
